10 Essentials to buy from the MAC Sale

MAC Sale is on!!
Even though its suppossed to start tomorrow the code is working.
CODE: SUMO

This list is my personal opinion from all the MAC stuff I've ever bought. Believe me its a truck load, so here are my 10 essentials you must buy during the 25% off Sale.

In random order (no makeup)

~187 Brush: Gives a beautiful airbrushed look to the skin when used with liquid foundation. I use my MUFE HD foundation and this brush to give a gentle soft glow.

~109 Brush: Another great brush that I use for foundation, unlike the 187 which gives a soft look this one blends it in flawlessly. Depending on your needs and time of day this is another great brush for foundation

~217 Brush: If I were stranded on an island, I would take my 217 Brush!!! Seriously amazing. Its multi-purpose & if you are buying only one eye brush this is it. You can apply color to your lids, do an outer V smokey eye or use it on your crease or blend all colors evenly. Love it!! I have 3!!

~275 Brush: Like me if you are challenged doing the outer V and getting that perfect smokey eye, this brush is for you. Its angled and helps in depositing the right amount of color at the right spot.

~168 Brush: i use it on blush and bronzer.I prefer angles brushes for this job in order to get a perfect C, starting at the apple of my cheeks to my temples

~187 Brush: if you use powderor mineral stuff, this is the best buffer.kabuki brush I have used. Super soft natural hair that flawlessly blend powder in. Total Thumbs Up!!

~Brush Cleaner: If you own brushes you need this. Nuff said :)
*Tip: It come with a stupid cap on the top, instead I switched it out with a spray "thingy" from another bottle. First lay a small clean towel down, place your brush on it and spray. Soak the brush, wait a few seconds to let the liquid saturate it and loosen color, dirt and bacteria. use the towel and clean the brush in upward direction. Voila you are done!!

~Cleanse off Oil
My favorite cleanser of life!! If you wear make up or have een thought about wearing it you NEED it....seriously NEED it. Its amazingly strong and rinses off water proof makeup as well. Its gentle on skin and super effective.
*Tip: To remove makeup put on face and lightly massgae all over face, concentrating on areas where you have make up on. Then rinse with water. You can use a face wash after this if you like or just put moisturizer on.

~Prep & Prime SPF 50
I use this differently depending on my needs, sometimes I mix a pea size with my moisturizer and thats it but that's only when my skin is well behaved. On days where my skin needs extra help I wear in under my moisturizer and then blend foundation on with my 187 brush or 109 brush.

~Pro Palette Eye Shadow x 15 &
~Pro Palette Blush x 6
I always depot my blushes and eye shadows. Its a space saver, easy to travel with and I just prefer it.

Happy Shopping!!

Don't forget to Back to MAC your containers.

Happy Sunday!!

MAC SALE 25% OFF......Hooray!!

MAC Friends & Family Sale: 25% Off Coupon!

MAC will be having their Friends & Family Sale June 16th through June 18th, online only. The discount will be 25% off all products on www.maccosmetics.com

I am excited as I missed the last one in January. I will be concentrating on brushes, empty palettes & their skin care line. I have enough makeup & there's only that much I can wear before it all melts down my face in steamy Florida. I will be putting up my Lust List for this sale. If you really want something, I suggest making a list and getting it as soon as the sale is on!! I know I will.

Audrina Patridge Hair: Light or Dark?

I have dark hair...black is the right term. I've been highligting my hair lighter since my 16th birthday. Never chunky just thinner blended colors. I absolutely dislike looking like a skunk so chunky highlights are not for me.....or any human.....sorry if that hurts your feelings!!

My hair has been a range of dark brown to much lighter shades of golden"esque" brown. While in college a few years ago I took a break & let them get healthy & shiny again.....but turns out hair color is like crack & I can't get clean. I've fallen off the bandwagon several times. The one rule I abide by is waiting 10-12 weeks between coloring instead of 6 weeks. I do that because I'm afraid that my hair will look fried, on the downside I have roots that are a few inches too long...Yikes!!

I gave highlighting another long break, I last got it done in December.....but tomorrow is the my appointment & as silly as it may sound....I'm a little giddy!! Its so exciting to sit in that chair for a few hours (I have long hair) and wonder how it will all turn out. I don't take chances with my haircare & skincare, so I will spending a pretty penny tomorrow.....but it will all be worth it when I walk out sayshing my hair in the sunlight :)

On that note what look do you prefer on Audrina and why?

Stila Indian Summer

Seems like everywhere I look the Indian theme is going strong. Though one might think that it started with Slumdog millionaire...I just want refresh your memory to 2 or 3 summers back when bohemian skirts & Indian tunics were the rage, in fact these items cemented Tory Burch's (Designer) place in the fashion world.

Having said that check out Stila's Indian Summer Collection 2009

P.S. I would have preferred an Indian Model rather than a bronzed girl, just my take...there are many bollywood actress who fit that role well and would appeal to the western market. Just a thought!!

Kate Gosselin Hair - Do or Don't

What do you think of her hairstyle. Do or Don't? Leave a Comment.

Personally I dislike it, my mom says never say Hate, but strongly dislike is more like it.

I'm not really into Reverse Mullets!!!

Lust Item: Nars Bridal Palette

OMG!! I recently got an email from NARS Cosmetics about their Bridal Palette, I didn't pay it much attention as I am on a makeup buying hiatus but this limited edition palette may break me out of it....Ouch!!

Take a look at this beauty!!

Features color-coordinated shades in a stylish compact. Complete with a large mirror the travel-ready palettes are ideal for easy makeup application anytime. Limited availability. Due to their exclusivity, NARS palettes are non-returnable.
Price: $65.00

Also with this palette you can try their products and see what the fuss is about Orgasm & Albatross.

Hair Rinse 1

What does this hair rinse do?
It makes my...maybe even your hair Shiny!

Ingredients:
This mask has only 3 ingredients which are 1/4 cup Vinegar* and 1 tsp fresh Lemon juice* & 1/2 Cup Water (These measurements are based on my hair which reaches a good 6 inches below my shoulders)

*Plain White Vinegar is fine, but Apple Cider is better.
*If your hair is very dry, use only 1/4 tsp Lemon juice.

Directions:
After you shampoo your hair, pour the mixture of fresh lemon juice, vinegar & water through hair and massage, then rinse with water. Apply your usual conditioner and wash with water. It will remove all the dirt and your hair will be shine sparkling.

How Long should I leave it on for?
Rinse it all out after massaging for 10 minutes and apply conditioner. As your hair is drying you will smell vinegar, but once your hair dries, no smell.

Why Vinegar?
Vinegar removes scaly build-up & residue from hair shafts & closes the cuticles.   Since residue coats the hair causing it to look dull, removing residue gives your hair more shine.  By closing the cuticles, the hair slides more easily and there will be fewer tangles. Vinegar has a tonic action that promotes blood circulation in the small capillaries that irrigate the skin.

Why Lemon Juice?
It restores the acid mantle of your hair, making hair shiny.

How often can I use this rinse?
I use it once a week and would recommend that time frame between the next one.

Let me know if it worked for you. Happy Shiny Hair!!

Follow Up Reviews

Maybe its just me or have you noticed that in the beauty blogging or YouTube world, beauty gurus do not do follow up reviews......I mean doesn't that leave things a bit.....incomplete.

I buy most if not all of my beauty supplies after reading reviews & googling images to make sure I am buying the right thing. I am terrible at returning stuff & they usually end up in my pink basket & become birthday, Christmas gifts.

At makeuplust I've decided to do follow up reviews, because I read too many blogs singing praises of stuff on the first day, but not mentioning that the hair dryer didn't work on day 36 or the eyeliner left a nasty stain!!

These reviews will certainly help you in making the decision to buy a product whether it costs $0.99 or $500. The point is it buy what we need America, not fill our lives with unnecessary junk....OK maybe I'm getting a little carried away but you get my drift...Right?

Please feel free to ask me to do a review and I'll follow up on those products after using it for 30-90 days.

Common Hair Myths Part 1

Myth: Trim your hair frequently to grow them faster & denser.
FACT: Whether you trim your hair or not, they grow half an inch every 4 weeks. Trimming split hair ends improves the look of your hair.

Myth: Stress is the main cause of hair loss
FACT: On average we lose 100 strands of hair daily even in the absense of stress. However, you may lose more, if you are very stressed.

Myth: Plucking out grey hair will grow more grey hair
FACT: Plucking grey hair may damage hair follicles and lead to infection on the scalp. But there is no connection between plucking & greying hair.

Chronicles of my Skin - Part 1

For some reason, my well behaved skin has been giving me much heartache recently. At first my lone pimple was no cause for concern, but over a month ago I got a few more & blamed the extensive renovations & creepy workers at my house for all the stress. The workers have come & gone, the drapes are up & the plush cushions are in place.....but so are my pimples. I know this might not be as grave to some but I've never ever struggled with repeat visits from the zit fairy....no! no! ZIT WITCH!!

As soon as one goes I see another setting shop....LEAVE ME ALONE!!

I am not vain, but this is my face you know. My boyfriend always complemented my skin...calling it my best feature....clear and glowing.

So, what went wrong? Is it that I'm getting older?
Well, I am 26 and in some cultures I have long passed my peak. I did read, as we forge into our late 20's & early 30's the skin drastically changes...so is this what it is?

What concerns me most about this situation is not the bump but the hideous blemish it leaves on my brown skin.

Is it my diet?
Well, I was raised vegetarian & even though I did venture out and eat meat, by no means am I a regular, 1-2 chicken or fish entrees a week. I avoid fried food, dislike ice creme & don't drink coffee. I know, it perplexes me as well!!

Oh! Maybe my skin products?
I've been using the same products for a long time now.
Face Wash - RX for brown skin
Face Serum - RX for brown skin
Moisturizer - Aveeno Daily renewal SPF 30
Night Moisturizer - Oil of Olay

My conclusion

I am an old lady now & I surrender to you ZIT WITCH.......NO! WAIT UP......not so fast....maybe I just need to relax, stop stressing about it & hint to my boyfriend to pamper me (are you reading baby!!!)

Your help is much appreciated, YES YOU! Please me a comment.

Benetint vs Just a Pinch

Despite my hardest attempt in avoid getting sucked into the MAC counter at my mall today, I found myself browsing......okay maybe buying a few things.
The most noteworthy being Just a Pinch Gel Blush from MAC. Its a gel based blush in a container similar to a tendertone. It's very light and sheer. It gives a rosy natural blush much like Benefit's Benetint.

What do I think about MAC's Just a pinch?

Pros
  • The container is super easy to carry. Just throw it in your purse or makeup bag.
  • It's gel based so the texture feels a lot smoother and its easier to work with when blending.
  • It can be Backed to MAC.
  • It cost $19.00

Cons

  • If you have oily skin, skip it. Since it adds shine and a good deal a moisture to the cheeks.
  • I found the color payoff to be light, so pile it on. * Wear the blush and then your foundation so that it looks more natural and you glow from within *.
  • Since it is gel based it easily transfers to your hands i.e if you touch your face often.
  • Size is 0.5 fl oz.
  • No smell!! Really MAC, couldn't you have addded a hint of rose essence??
What do I think of Benetint?

Pros
  • It smells heavenly. I really like the smell of rose...then again who doesn't.
  • Once the color dries, its not going anywhere....no sticky business. It dries matte & gives a good subtle flushed look.
  • Size is 0.40 fl oz.
  • The color payoff is good.

Cons

  • It costs $30.00.
  • The bottle and applicator suck!! I'm always the bottle will break and the nail polish wand kinda applicator needs to be changed asap.
  • The liquid consistency makes it harder to work with, if you're not fast enough...it'll run down your cheeks.

So what is the point of this blog entry? What would your ideal product be?

My ideal product would
  • Be in a container like MAC's
  • Smell like Benefit's Benetint
  • Have a consisteny of a gel base but dry matte
  • More color payoff
  • Come in 2-3 different sizes, & priced accordingly.
What would you change or keep for either product?

Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliner Pencil = LOVE

I feel like I've just fallen in love again. Only this time, it not with someone but some"thing".

As you can guess from the title of this post I am talking about my UD eyeliner pencil that I got in in the mail today from Sephora.

I had read so many reviews about it (mostly if not all positive) and had added it to my wish list for my next order from Sephora. I am an eyeliner kinda gal, I don't wear it on my upper lids as much as I do on my lower waterline. I have brown eyes and black, green & purple are my favorite. For long I've been looking for a golden liner and I bought the one from UD. My heart sang when I put it on.....so creamy, vibrant and well....just great!! They are waterproof for those who lose their liner even before stepping outside.

I bought 2 colors, a golden called Honey and a purple called Lust.  Me thinks I'm gonna buy more on eBay (since its cheaper) or wait for the UD sale.

If you haven't tried it, I promise it won't disappoint. Its makeuplust approved :)

Indian DIY Face Mask # 1

My mom has the best ideas for face masks, most if not all are based on Indian culture, ingredients & secrets. The one I am sharing with you today is a great exfoliator & skin softener. It thoroughly moisturizes my skin & makes it supple.
Ingredients
*(These items can be bought at your local Indian Grocery store or online)

Tip ~For Dry Skin use these ingredients below

*Chickpea Flour (Known as Besan in Hindi) - Is an excellent exfoliator
*Rose Water - Acts as a Toner
*Turmeric powder - Acts as an Antiseptic
Honey - Helps Moisturize
Yogurt (plain, unflavored, not low fat or fat free) - tightens and softens skin

Tip~For Oily Skin skip Honey & add Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice - Acts as a Natural Cleanser & prevents oiliness

Tip ~ For Normal or Combination Skin, use both honey and Lemon Juice

Preparation

  • Take 3 tsp of besan in a bowl
  • Add a pinch of turmeric. The lighter your skin tone the less turmeric you should use.
  • 1 tsp of Honey (acc to your skin type)
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon Juice ( acc to your skin type)
  • 1 tsp Yogurt
  • Rose Water as needed - to make the consistency thick enough to be applied to your face

Mix well and apply, Leave on for 20 mins or until skin is dry. Rinse with warm water. Don't forget to wear sunscreen.

Your skin will thank you!!

Target's JK Jemma Kidd

Has anyone used JK Jemma Kidd's makeup at Target???
I walked past them this weekend, and did a double take. The colors were vibrant and the packaging was chic. I did swatch them and they were creamy & colorful. I was about to pick one up but didn't because they are $18.00!! Yes, more than MAC.....granted there is more product in JK, but I wanted to read reviews before I dove in and bought any.
Please leave a comment on these. Thanks!!

Stila Review & Swatches (from Haute Look) Part 1

After a long much needed sabbatical, I am finally back.....writing about my favorite stuff and it feels great!!

All the stuff reviewed was bought from HauteLook, although it did take 16 long days to get to me the wait was well worth it, especially in the price department. Here is a previous post that describes & lists what I bought.

1) Stila Smudge Pot Trio

What Do I Think?

My initial reaction was they are Tiny!! Yes, I do know its a trio & they are mini sizes but that was my honest first reaction.

The packaging was okay, I say okay because I know many makeup junkies are big MAC, Urban Decay etc fans & to most if not all, packaging maybe be a big deal. So, in that respect it was simple, did its job & is now in the trash unlike my MAC Fafi boxes that for some weird reason I still have!! :)

The consistency is good, the black one is superb, and so is the grey...the bronze is didn't show up too much. They are creamy and with a thin eyeliner brush you control the thickness or thinness of the line. The color lasted all day i.e. 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. Oh! The eyeliner brush it came with is rough and useless in my opinion.
Would I buy it again?

Yes, I would.

Stila Winter 07 Warm Palette

What do I think?

My initial reaction was "wow!! cool packaging". I like the exterior, the cute box it came in gets a thumbs up as well. The only part I was disappointed in was that the eyeshadows, eyeliner & blush were the same size, they really should have made the blush pan bigger, so my fluffy blush brushes can get some color!!

The lightest color is a shimmery warm off white, reminds me of MAC's Vanilla. A very creamy texture even though they weren't creme eyeshadows. There are no names for any of the 4 colors which I didn't like. They are identified by their kind. 2 eyeshadows 1 eyeliner cake & 1 blush. The 2nd eyeshadow is yet another pretty color, a muted beige gold.....I found it stunning.
The eyeliner is the same consistency as the eyeshadows. It is golden brown with chunkier sparkles much like MAC's Lustre Eyeshadow. It didn't work well as a eyeliner and should be used as a eyeshadow especially on the crease or smokey eye. It was my least favorite color in the palette. The blush is a matte pinkish terracotta salmon color, unique with great pigmentation. They should have made the blush pan bigger since most blush brushes are fluffy need a generous surface amount.
Would I buy it again?
Yes I would, for the blush and 2nd eyeshadow.

Stila Haul

This is what I bought from http://www.hautelook.com/ during the 32 hours of Stila Sale

The smudge pot trio
What are they?

Gel Eyeliner, I've heard they are similar to MAC's Fluidline which I've never tried but heard good things about. The trio comes with 3 colors which are black, grey, bronze.

The smokey eye palette 03

What is it?

A palette that talks & walk you through the application for a perfect smokey eye. So even if your new or old to wearing makeup this is a cool palette, besides these colors are some of Stila's best selling ones. The runway look

What is it?

A eyeshadow trio, with 3 shades of brown for a neutral runway look. Come is a leather case with a flower that can be worn as a bracelet or in your hair. Superb!! :)

Stila 07 Winter Warm Palette

What is it?

4 warm eyeshadows that I'm hoping wile skin look great on my tan/olive skin. The packaging looks cute. Most importantly I hope they are as good as they look in the picture.

What did you buy? I've heard the shipping is slow from this website, but I don't mind waiting since the prices were unbeatable. I'll post a review once I get my hand on these goodies.

Happy Weekend!!

NARS Haul & Review

I've been lusting after all these great NARS products for a while, here is what I bought and my review......take a look!!

* I didn't buy all this stuff in one day, I've collected this over a few months.

From Nars at Sephora

1) The Love Set

What it is: A kit featuring a blush, lip pencil, and gloss.

What it does: NARS The Love Set is packed with pinky peach hues that impart a natural glow. Packed within a sleek, black box are the best-selling Orgasm Blush, azalea-pink Pillow Talk Lip Gloss, and a Sex Machine Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. All Full Size.

What do I think: This is an amazing value, its like getting the lip pencil for Free!! The lip pencil is a beautiful color that would look good on almost all skin tones. Its a chubby pencil, creamy with good color payoff. The Lip Gloss is a universally flattering as well. NARS gloss texture is different than MAC. (I will do a review on both brands). Now on to the best part, the blush. It totally lived up to its hype and I am so pleased to have bought it. The packaging was wonderful, and I saved the box for travelling since its so sturdy. Love it!!

5/5 Stars

2) Dolce Vita Set

What it is: NARS Blush Duo and a brand new Lip Gloss in Dolce Vita.

What else you need to know: The set contains two exclusive must-haves: a Blush Duo in Albatross (sheer light golden sheen) and Lovejoy (shimmering bronzed rose) and a brand new Lip Gloss in Dolce Vita (sheer dusty rose), created from the inspiration of the already adored lipstick shade.

What do I think: Absolutely LOVE it!! The blush is a beautiful bronzy color and with light hand would look good on almost every skin tone. I use the Albatross as a highlighter on my brow bone, cheekbones and over my Cupid's bow which give my face a glow. The lipgloss is fantastic, a rosy pink color that I would definitely buy again and again.

5/5 stars

3)Deep Throat Blush & Striptease Lip Gloss Set.

What it is: A limited-edition, provocative coupling that pairs Nars Deep Throat Blush with a brand-new lip gloss shade, Striptease.

What else you need to know: This set marks the debut of Striptease, nude lip gloss that imparts a universally flattering, candlelight-nude luster to lips. The set is highly wearable with complementary hues that effortlessly create a softly glimmering lip and a radiant, healthy complexion.

What do I think: Great blush, but I totally hated the lipgloss. Many reviews I read online said they preferred Deep throat to Orgasm but I wanted to try them both anyway and I'm glad I did. Orgasm is a lighter alternative to deep throat, which works better on darker skin tones. I love both since I have olive skin and peachy orangey tones work the best on me. So depending on my mood I wear the lighter one or darker. I didn't love the lipgloss cause the color is terrible, the consistency was nasty & it looked chalky. Therefore I'm giving it 2.5 stars.

Nars Eyeshadow - Nightlife Collection

in Night Flight

What is it: A black eyeshadow with cobalt blue pearls. Longwearing, crease resistant color in sheer wearable formulas. All NARS eyeshadows can be applied sheer or layered for a more dramatic effect. These richly pigmented powders blend effortlessly and can also be used wet for precisely lining the eyes.

What else you need to know: use as eyeshadow, eyeliner and on eyebrows.

What do I think: This is my first Nars eyeshadow and will not be my last. The color payoff is great and the color itself is awesome. I like how black it is but give the shimmery illusion of blue. Great for all over eyelids or a smokey eye. A bit expensive, but its a great investment if you like simple yet unique color concepts.

My 15 Minute Face

Its a chaotic world and my life is no different. I love collecting makeup, which is quite evident when I see my vanity and drawers full of makeup...old and new!!
Below is my daily quick look (daytime)

1) I clean my face with RX for brown skin facewash while in the shower.

2) After gently patting my face dry, I use 1 pump of RX for Brown skin Botanical Brightener and 3 pumps of Aveeno's positively radiant daily moisturizer SPF 30 on face and neck.
*Tip: The best time to moisturize your face is after a shower or washing it as the steam opens your pores which enables the moisturizer to be absorbed more efficiently.

3) I wait 5-10 minutes before applying any makeup, so that all the moisture is soaked in. I don't wear foundation everyday, but if I do, I wear MUFE's HD foundation in 128 all over my face with MAC's 187* stippling brush.
* MAC's 187 Duo Fibre stippling brush does cost a pretty penny, but is so worth it. After I tried it at my MAC counter I fell in love and saved for weeks to buy me some MAC brushes.....and boy am I glad I did!!

4) MUFE's foundation is so amazing that I don't need concealer, but if I'm not wearing any foundation I dab on a small amount of MAC concealer in NW30 under my eyes and blend it gently outward.

5) Youtube's makeup gurus have me hooked on eyeshadow primer which has been a life saver. I use Rimmel's foundation primer on the entire eyelid which works exactly like Urban Decay's Primer potion, but is 1/3 the cost and triple the size!!
Tip: ES Primer helps the eyeshadow to adhere to the lids better and not look chalky....aka 1985!! The ES lasts longer looks more vibrant and absolutely NO creasing. A Must Have!

6) I lightly dust on a golden or a peachy color all over the lid (until my crease), on my crease I use a medium brown and blend in windshield wiper motion (with MAC brush 217*), then I use a highlight color (NARS albatross ) under my brown bone. Lastly I take a dark brown ES and smudge the lower lash line with it lightly and then line my eyes with a soft brown Kajal/Kohl pencil......Voila, I'm done!!

7)Since blush is my favorite part, I change it up regularly....right now I'm loving
a) NARS-Orgasm b) NARS-Deep Throat c) MAC-Nuance LE.
I use a fluffy brush & with a light hand dust it on the apples of my cheeks....the trick is to look naturally flushed and not like Bozo the clown.....Yikes!!

8) On to lips, I start with a liner, usually NARS since they are so creamy and long lasting. For a sheer look I use MAC lipglass, for a longer lasting color...I opt for lipstick. For daily use I stick with coral, peachy colors since they look natural on my olive tone skin.
Tip: Moisturize your lips before applying any lip product, I use Rosebud Salve which smells good and helps prevent chapped lips.

9) Before I head out I use MAC's amazing 183 brush (Kabuki) to very very lightly buff on MUFE's HD Microfinish Powder. Its completely translucent, helps to set foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. Its 100% mineral silica powder softens the appearance of imperfections & evens out my complexion for a glowing, radiant look. It lasts all day, and I don't feel oily even in the summer.
Tip: Don't get carried away with the quantity you apply, less is definitely more or you will risk looking ashy.

This is my routine, have any ideas of your own...do let me know by writing a comment. Thanks!!!!

"This" Foundation = Amazingness

I've always struggled with finding the perfect foundation, some looked light others were cakey and (deep sigh!!) I've also been a victim of mismatched foundation as well. My skin is usually well behaved which tends to look best in the winter months.....ahem, the winter months of North Florida, I don't think my skin would be that well behaved in Alaska!! Anyway, I am not a daily foundation wearer, only special occasions for that extra "oomph". I've been on a quest to find a foundation so sheer & light that it looks natural & luminous....I know many brands claim to have invented this magical potion but I had yet to find it. I searched high & low which put a hole in my wallet, and I didn't find anything to satisfy my desire. Even MAC failed me miserably. The closest I got was BENEFIT's You Rebel tinted moisturizer, a little too thick for my taste but workable with 2 pumps of my AVEENO Moisturizer.

In an attempt to beat the heat at South Beach on my vacation I stepped in Sephora on Collins Avenue. I browsed through and promised myself not fall prey to the Make up artist who so intently followed me. I did not deter, until after about 5-7 minutes I caved in and said "Ummm, actually I'd like a good foundation" (I know, I know....that's some determination!!)

Anyway, after about a dozen choices all over my hand and face I was ready to leave, when the Make up Artist said "Let's try 1 last brand, I have a good feeling it will work...it known to be great."

What the heck, I'd been there for 45 minutes already, so why would 2 minutes hurt me.....

Lo & behold, he brings back a bottle of Make Up Forever High Definition Foundation in 2 colors (#128 & #155). I had heard a lot of good things about them, but then again I was apprehensive as this so called artist had applied a dozen shades on me already.....so with low expectations I let him do his job.

~*ELEVATOR MUSIC PLEASE *~ I turned to look at myself on the mirror and was simply blown away.....seriously, I'm not joking!! It was light & sheer...made me glow....hid my old blemishes and most importantly felt light on my skin. I kid you not, I spent the next 5 minutes looking at myself in the mirror, he even took me outside the store with a mirror to see myself...and I readily accepted. There I was in Florida sun checking out my foundation which looked invisible and matched my skin tone perfectly.....no more different shade of face & neck!!!

So, I finally found it....my quest was over....aaahhh....not yet...I forgot to ask the price.....which I knew would be a pretty penny...."It's only $40, what a great value for perfection" said the make up artist.

$40 on foundation??!! I knew it was too good to be true....but true "amazingness" comes with a price & I am now a proud owner of a foundation that works for me.

Too Faced Beauty Collection

My first too faced product purchase was at Urban Outfitters some years ago when I was a college sophomore. I bought their product called "Quickie Chronicles" in Starlet. The packaging was genius, it was easy to carry around, the colors were brilliant and it was well in my budget. Might I add they lasted a long time as well. If you've never tried these, you must give them a try. I haven't bought anything from them in a long time & my previous products from them are old & gone, so when I came across the World Domination Tour All Access Backstage Beauty Collection on the Sephora website I was excited.
It boasts a large selection of makeup in a very cute musical jewelry box.
(who doesn't like an extra bonus?!?!)
Price: $42

The set includes

- Eight Eye Shadows

- Duo Bronzer

- Face Illuminator

- Six Lip Glosses

- Brow Powder

- Eyeliner Cake

- Blush
Its an limited edition for sephora, find it here

Michelle Obama Makeup

I confess that I enjoyed watching the election coverage over the past many months, but at the same time I'm glad that its over. I hope for better days to come for us here at home and all over the world.
On a lighter note, I admire Michelle Obama's style & elegance. I like her choice of simple minimalistic makeup. Below is a breakdown if you want to achieve a fresh daily look just like hers. (All suggestions are based on my interpretation of her makeup but on my skin tone, i.e. MAC NW35)

I especially liked her makeup on 60 Minutes this past sunday. That look is an inspiration for this post.
Face:
Benefit You Rebel Tinted Moisturizer
MAC Concealer in NW 35
MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Medium Dark

Eyes:
MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood (I prefer it) or Barestudy (if you want a little shine under your e/s)
Eyeshadow in Tete-a-Tint (Matte2) on inner corner
Eyeshadow in Brown Script (Matte2) on middle part of the eyelid
Eyeshadow in Glamour Check (Starflash) on outer V

Blend well, then Curl Eyelashes.

I lined upper lid with essence of beauty (from walgreens) Fiber Eye Liner Brush with MAC's Dark Soul Pigment very thinly & winged it slightly. I lined the lower water line with MAC's Black Russian (Suite Array) liner.

Cheeks:
MAC Mineralize blush in Nuance (LE from Sonic Chic) or use
ELF Blush in Glow or
MAC Beauty Powder Blush in Enough Said

* Peach or neutral beige/brown blush recommended

Lips:
Revlon Colorstay Mineral Lipglaze in Fig or
MAC Lipstick in Sea Sheer or
H.i.P Jelly Balm in Ripe

This look is great for daytime, its simple, fast and fresh. Enjoy!!

MAC's Dame Edna Collection

I'm so excited about MAC's Dame Edna collection. I love when MAC collaborates with celebrities & designers. I've known of Dame Edna for a long time as my parents have watched her for years. Most people in the US have no idea who she is, so here is a brief intro

Dame Edna Everage is a character played by Australian comediam Barry Humphries. Dame Edna consistently denies being a fictional character or drag performer, and refers to Humphries as her manager. Indeed, Dame Edna has frequently said that the thought of a man dressing up as a woman for entertainment purposes is repulsive. You can watch her performances at http://www.youtube.com/ or visit her website at http://www.dame-edna.com/

Here are the products releasing in December from the Dame Edna Collection

I ♥ Blushes

I was doing my makeup this morning and while rummaging through my stuff I had a thought....what is my favorite makeup product? I mean, I own a robust collection of eyeshadows, blushes, lipsticks, glosses, paint pots, liners, brushes etc....you name it I got it...so what then is my favorite item???

So I opened all my drawers to go through them and decide on what I LOVED the most.....I ran my fingers through my paintpots & smiled....felt the same way with my hefty collection of eyeshadows and lipsticks. Then came open my drawer for blushes, bronzers and MSF's and boy was I happy!! :)

I think I've always had an affinity towards blushes & bronzers amongst all beautifying products because of my mom. She has since years kept her makeup routine very simple and natural, & as a child watching her get ready I loved her how blush gave her color...it was almost like painting.

I hereby declare my profund LOVE for blushes/bronzers....okay okay I may be sounding overdramatic but finally I have a favorite beauty product!!

Below are my favorites:

ELF - Flushed & Glow Blush (glow is amazing on olive skin), also Bronzer in Luminance

L'oreal HiP - Notorious Blush

MAC - Powder Blush in Azalea, Pink Swoon, Style, Honour, Golden Trace & Margin
Mineralize Blush in Nuance, Merrily, Gleeful & Love Joy
MSF in Gold Deposit, So Ceylon, Petticoat & Warmed
Beauty Powder Blush in Eversun, Feeling, Enough Said & So Shy
Body Shop - Shimmer Waves Bronzer
Cheek Color in Golden Pink & Apricot Shimmer
Estee Lauder - Estée Lauder Brilliant Shimmer Powder
Maybelline - Mineral Blush in True Peach, Gentle Pink, So Mauve

Brush Guard Review

I'm always happy to check my mailbox, because I enjoy shopping & on many occasions the mailbox has goodies I ordered. That being said, today was no different, I received my Brush Guard in the mail.

* If you don't know about brush guard please read my previous post about the product.

Review

Packaging: The packaging is simple, slim & has a home made feel to it. It has no fancy words or font or any of that stuff. It gets right to the point. It costs $5.50 including tax + s&h. I really wasn't expecting a "benefitesque" or "MAC-ish" packaging. Its understandable that to keep prices low for the product the packaging has been kept at its minimal. It comes with a guide on how to use the brush guard. The brush guard comes in a clear plastic bag with 6 per package.

Product: I didn't know what to expect, even though I had seen pictures online. Among the many lessons I've learned about shopping online, the primary one is........"it never is what it seems"...wish I had learned that after my disastrous move to buy red lipsticks online!! Getting back on track, the kit comes with 6 per package. The texture itself of the product is "plastic-ish". My first impression was "no way will my MAC 182 brush or 134 fit in this tiny thing", but boy was I wrong!!

As I wiggled in my brush, the guard stretched to accommodate even my biggest brush. I was surprised that it wasn't too snug or loose either...just perfect. There is a lot of elasticity to the product. The biggest advantage I see to this product is that I can wash my brushes, slip on a brush guard and dry it in my tall glass container. I used to dry them laying down which would take up my entire vanity area.

Oohh...& another thing I noticed is that the product is gaps/holes in it which makes it breathable. Unlike my other makeup brush set that came with fantastic brushes but solid plastic covers that always have makeup residue stuck on them. So not only do I have to wash my brushes but the solid plastic covers as well.

They might look silly, but when I spend $$$ on makeup brushes...I want them to last a very long time & frankly I'd rather keep the integrity of my brush than care about how it looks with the guard on.

Pictures:

Back

Brushes I tested it on

with Brush Guard on

Verdict: I like them a lot, they will be great to travel with & like I mentioned before right after I wash my brushes. Thumbs up!! For $5.50, I think its a great stocking stuffer for my makeup loving family and friends.

You can check out their site at www.thebrushguard.com

If you have any questions you can leave me a comment. Thanks for reading!!

Kat Von D Palette Swatches

As promised here are the swatches from both the Kat Von D Eyeshadow Palette. I applied Rimmel's foundation primer under before swatching these.

3 colors in both the palettes are the same. Each Palette comes with 8 colors.

Beethoven & Ludwig have 5 colors (excluding the common colors which is the 3rd picture)

I don't know why but the rad purple is a true purple with shimmer and its looks brown here...but it is purple
Below is the Ludwig Palette, comes with 8 colors, here are 5

Below are the 3 colors that are common to Palette

The picture on Sephora of the Palettes are accurate. If you don't wear a base I suggest you do so that your eyeshadow lasts longer, doesn't crease and the color is more vibrant. I use MAC's Paint Pots under my eyeshadow or Rimmel's Foundation Primer (which just like Urban decay Primer Potion)

Brush Guard

A friend of mine told me about this product called brush guard while I was complaining about how I hate to wash my brushes weekly. Even though I reluctantly wash them they still gather a lot of dust since they sit in a glass on my vanity. Anyway, I digress....these brush guards might be a good way to prevent dust collecting on your brushes. Also I lay my brushes flat after washing them so that they don't get out of shape but with these I can just wash and dry them vertically in their glass. I have yet to try them but will write a review when I do.

Here is the link to their website

http://www.thebrushguard.com/

Benefit Lipsticks

I am a daily Benefit You Rebel User and like most of their products. Sadly Benetint didn't work for me but on my recent trip to Sephora I tried their lipsticks & I am in love . I have tried many drugstore brand lipsticks & amongst those I like Rimmel the best. On a pricey bracket I love MAC, so I thought I had no reason to venture out looking for anything else especially since MAC has a wide variety of shades and finishes to suit every skin tone.

While waiting for a friend I walked into Sephora and tried some products...the most memorable being Benefit's Lipstick. They are soooo creamy and pigmented. Almost every color I tried looked great, which on a olive complexion is no easy task. That's when I knew it was too good to be true......the price of each lipstick is (drumroll please) $18. Now to some this may not be much but to a recent college graduate like myself that's 2 bottles of wine or 4 if you want to go cheaper :)

Anyway I bought only one and have been wearing it daily...seriously....

So, if you have the Cash or simply love makeup as I do, try Benefit's lipsticks....

Sephora's Kat Von D Collection

My absolute favorite eyeshadow palette is Kat Von D's True Romance Palette in Beethoven. I initially saw it on YouTube, there were girls raving about this stuff and I decided to give it a try. I cringed a bit when I saw the price, but bought it anyway and boy am I glad I did :)

The colors are universally flattering, I especially love the blue and the purples....come to think of it I love them all.
They are very creamy and highly pigmented and I'm a sucker for good packaging and it delivers on that end as well.

On my recent trip to Dallas I caved in and bought the Ludwig Palette too, its a neutral set and just as great.

If you are in the market for a cute yet highly efficient eyeshadow palette give either one of these a try, you will not be disappointed.

I wanted to try the Lipsticks in the collection as well, but never got to it.....they are $18 each...maybe eBay has them cheaper.....
*3 colors in the 2 palettes are the same.
Below is a video from itsjudytime (she's awesome) on youtube using Kat Von D's Beethoven Palette. Enjoy!!

MAC Lust List

I will be going to the mall tomorrow to check out MAC's new collections. I'm really excited about the Red She Said mineral eyeshadows particularly Inter-view and Threesome.

I've heard so much about mineralize skinfinish and want to give them a try. I researched some online and really like So Ceylon and Gold Deposit, but I'll hold my horses since most colors online look a lot different in person.

So here's my MAC Lust List for tomorrow

1. Red She Said Collection

Mineralize Eyeshadow Trio in Threesome and Inter-view

Beauty Powder Blush in Enough Said

Lipstick in Soft Pause

2. Sheer Minerals Collection

Mineralize Skinfinish in So Ceylon and Gold Deposit

Mineralize sheersheen Powder/Loose in Sheerbronze

3. Suite Array Collection

Pearlglide eyeliner in Black Russian and Molasses

4. Cremesheen Collection

Lipstick Dare You and Party Line

Lastly a good Kabuki Brush, doesn't have to be MAC cause they are sooooo expensive but if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to know. Thanks!!

I'll post swatches of my loot soon :)

MAC Suite Array Eye Liners

I have already declared my love for Rimmel Kajal/Kohl pencils in a previous blog entry. It wasn't until a week ago, that I found a new LOVE!! MAC's Suite Array Pencils!!

They are super creamy but the best part is they have a sparkly, reflective finish.
I bought...........
  • Bankroll: Rich green with bright green sparkle

  • Rave: Deep purple with Purple glitter

  • Fly-by-Blu: Light blue with blue glitter

I started collecting my MAC makeup less than a year ago, so I'm still relatively new to all its products. My Rimmel liners got the job done, so I never ventured into MAC's liners......but I'm glad I did for 2 reasons. 1) Its Limited edition, so its not like their regular liners. 2) I love sparkly stuff :)

If you're on a budget give Rimmel Kajal/Kohl pencils a try, if you can splurge try the liners from MAC's Suite Array collection and I can assure you, you won't regret it.

Cosmetics Company Store/Outlet aka CCO

So, my birthday is coming up and my wonderful boyfriend surprised me with a trip to Destin. Little did he know that besides the white sands & blue waters lies a another jewel in the heart of Destin. The Cosmetic Company Store/Outlet aka CCO.
Their MAC Section had a very good range of MAC lipglass, lipsticks,
and slim shines. They had about 20 eyeshadows, 10 LE palettes. 4 LE Brush Sets, 10 lipliners, 10 eyeliners, 6 powder blushes, 4 loose powder, some MSF, foundation, concealers and pigments.....needless to say I went a little crazy.

Their policy is no more then 3 of the same item in one brand. The sales rep said that rule could be worked around if I paid $ash cause she'd ring me separately.....and she did :)
I had an awesome time in Destin....bought 2 pairs of boots as well!!

If you've never checked out a CCO before do go in, it'll be worth the trip.

Also, lots of love & thanks to my boyfriend :)

Kim Kardashian

So besides totally loving Lauren Conrad, I love Kim Kardashian's sheer glowy look. I found her makeup routine on her website and here it is......

Visit http://www.kimkardashian.com/ for more on her style

STEP 1: I always start with a clean face. Then I put on Intuit 'Photo Shoot.' Intuit is a great company and I love the names of their products. Photo Shoot is a make up primer. I put it on after my moisturizer, which basically is like a moisturizer that will fill the pours on your face which will help set the foundation so it will last longer.

STEP 2: I use Cle De Peau concealer stick (it's super expensive, but works for me). It comes in two colors, I use Ocre, which is the darker of the two. I also use M.A.C. concealer (which comes in a little pot) if I run out of Cle de Peau. Everyone's color is different but I use NW25. I put the concealer under my eyes because I absolutely hate dark circles! I also use concealer to cover up blemishes!

STEP 3: After I put the concealer on I put on Make Up Forever liquid foundation. I mix one pump of No. 5 and two pumps of No. 4. I also have No. 3 for the winter time when I am really pale. I mix the foundations to get the perfect color. I blend them with the coolest make up brush. Its the M.A.C. brush No. 180.

STEP 4: Since I hate dark circles, after the foundation, I put on a little more concealer just under my eyes since the foundation makes it darker under my eyes. I use a lighter concealer from M.A.C. NW30 in a little lipstick tube-looking container and I select 'moisture cover.'

STEP 5: To set the foundation I lightly brush on with a big powder brush M.A.C. Select Sheer Pressed Powder NC 30, then to make me a little tanner I lightly brush on M.A.C. Powder NW 45.

STEP 6: Now its blush time! I'm obsessed with blush! I use a color called Gingerly to warm me up and give me a little color and then add a pink color called Cheek to give me rosey cheeks. I just started getting into cream blush and find it works a lot better and lasts a lost longer.

STEP 7: Time for the eyes! My favorite part! I first put down a M.A.C. Paint pot in a light color that matches my skin called Painterly. I just use my finder and put enough onto cover the lid. This creamy shadow makes it so that the powder eye shadow does not crease. Like, if you wear make up all day you will see that the eye shadow begins to crease and get oily, but if you put this paint color down first it won't! I love cream shadow and use the color cream pots too! I love colored shadow; so it depends on the color depend of shadow I plan to wear: If it's black smokey I use Carbon by M.A.C.; if its grey smokey I use Knight Divine or Print; if it's bown smokey I use Embark by M.A.C. I love a fresh shimmery look as well and use M.A.C. Pigment called Tan. Its so pretty! I love bright colors for eye make up! I absolutely love Make Up Forever and don't think anyone does pigment colors better than them. So again, depending on what color you feel like wearing, go look at Make Up Forever's colors to choose from.

STEP 8: I always use black pencil eyeliner. My favorite is Stilla black pencil.

STEP 9: Now its mascara time! Putting on mascara completes the look, but I have it when I mess up and get it on my eye lid and mess up the eye shadow. I used to use Lancome Hypnose, and still do, but I recently started to use M.A.C. Zoom mascara -- which is amazing! I take my time and put coat after coat. I love to layer mascaras so I will probably start with the M.A.C. Zoom and then put Lancome Hypnose on top. I always use a seperator brush to seperate my lashes. I am completely clueless on how to put false lashes on, so I only wear them for photo shoots sometimes.

STEP 10: The final touch is putting on lipstick! I usually use M.A.C. Lipliner called Stripdown (I use it very lightly) and a lipstick called Angel and put Nars Turkish Delight lipgloss on top. Or for my very nude matte lip I wear Nars Belle De Jour and I line my lips first with M.A.C. Subculture lipliner.

That completes the Kim Kardashian make up lesson!

This video is from Johnny Lavoy of Ford Artist. I like the simple classic Fall/ Winter Look. I too smudge my lipstick and eyeliner because its looks less harsh and lasts longer.

Enjoy!!
